King's College Hospital School

Back

King’s College Hospital School provides education to children and young people who are inpatients or day patients at King’s College Hospital. The school supports children across all age groups, ensuring that illness or medical treatment does not mean a pause in learning.

We work across several wards and offer bedside and classroom teaching depending on the medical needs of the child. Our provision spans Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 4, with a focus on creating engaging, flexible learning that supports academic continuity and emotional wellbeing. Many of our pupils are with us for a short time, while others attend over repeated admissions or extended stays.

Teaching is carefully tailored to each pupil’s needs, energy levels and attention span. Staff liaise with families, home schools and medical teams to design appropriate learning plans and maintain strong links with learning. Our goal is to reduce the disruption caused by illness and provide normalcy, structure and achievement in an otherwise unfamiliar setting.

We understand that hospitalisation is a time of uncertainty for families and pupils alike. Our teaching team brings calm, warmth and expertise to support learners academically and emotionally. We take pride in being a consistent and friendly presence at a time when children are navigating significant physical or emotional challenges. The work at King’s is grounded, thoughtful and learner-led. Education is not an afterthought here—it is part of holistic recovery and care.
