A major milestone

This week marks an important moment for Maudsley and Bethlem Hospital School as staff begin moving into the new Pears Maudsley Centre for Young People.

The new centre brings together specialist mental health care and education within one purpose built environment, designed to help young people remain connected to learning while receiving inpatient support.

Over the coming days, classrooms, resources and learning spaces will begin taking shape as staff settle into the new site.

Thank you to everyone involved in supporting the move, including colleagues across services, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the King’s Maudsley Partnership.

Saying goodbye to Mapother House

Alongside the move into the new building, this week has also been an opportunity to reflect on the time spent at Mapother House.

For many staff, the building holds years of memories and has been an important part of the school’s journey. It has been a place of learning, creativity and connection for both pupils and staff, and many members of the team are taking a moment to say goodbye before beginning this next chapter.

Education at the heart of the centre

As part of The Goldfinch Trust, Maudsley and Bethlem Hospital School is committed to providing high quality, personalised education for children and young people with medical and mental health needs.

Rated Outstanding by Ofsted, the school works closely with families, clinicians and mainstream settings to help pupils continue their education during their time in hospital.

The new site has been designed with this in mind, providing calm, well resourced spaces that support learning and wellbeing.

Facilities include dedicated classrooms for a range of specialist subjects, alongside outdoor areas such as the Outdoor Learning Zone.

Looking ahead

“Mapother House has been an important part of our school community for many years. We are now looking forward to beginning this next chapter in the Pears Maudsley Centre for Young People and creating new memories in a space designed around the needs of young people.”
