On the 8th June, we mark World Oceans Day, a global opportunity to recognise the beauty, importance and fragility of our oceans.
Covering more than 70% of the Earth's surface, our oceans regulate climate, support biodiversity and provide a home to an extraordinary variety of life. Yet they face growing threats from pollution, climate change and habitat loss.
"If we save the sea, we save our world." - Sir David Attenborough
World Oceans Day reminds us that protecting our natural environment is a shared responsibility and that education plays a vital role in inspiring future generations to care for the world around them.
At Maudsley and Bethlem Hospital School, pupils benefit from a beautiful on-site aquarium featuring a variety of tropical fish and aquatic life.
The aquarium provides a calming and therapeutic space that supports wellbeing, reflection and curiosity. For many children and young people, it offers a valuable connection with nature and an opportunity to observe the fascinating underwater world up close. The aquarium serves as a daily reminder of the importance of caring for living things and protecting the environments we depend upon.
This World Oceans Day, we celebrate the wonder of our oceans and encourage our cohort to consider the small actions we can all take to help protect them for future generations.
