Celebrating 100 Years of Sir David Attenborough: Strengthening Our Commitment to Sustainability

Today, The Goldfinch Trust proudly marks the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough, whose work has transformed global understanding of the natural world and our shared responsibility to protect it.

As we reflect on this milestone, one of his most widely recognised quotes feels particularly relevant:

“No one will protect what they don’t care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced.”
Sir David Attenborough

This moment provides an important opportunity to consider our role as a Trust and to further strengthen our commitment to sustainability and climate responsibility.

Building a Sustainable Future Across Our Trust

Sustainability is a key strategic priority for The Goldfinch Trust. As we continue to develop our Sustainability and Climate Action Plan, our focus is on embedding environmentally responsible practices into everyday school life while empowering our pupils and staff to play an active role.

We are already seeing strong practice across our schools, with a clear focus on creating environmentally friendly physical spaces, integrating sustainability into teaching and learning, and taking steps to reduce energy use across our settings.

Alongside this, we are engaging our schools through targeted communications, sharing practical and accessible actions that can be implemented within their settings. This ensures sustainability remains visible, relevant, and actionable across our Trust community.

From Awareness to Action

By raising awareness and highlighting both existing practice and simple actions, we are building on an already impactful approach to sustainability across the Trust.

Our ambition is to further accelerate this momentum in the months ahead through the continued development of a clear and deliverable Sustainability and Climate Action Plan that supports our schools, reduces our environmental impact, and strengthens our contribution to a more sustainable future.
